Great for robot drive motors
This thing is actually 7.2 volts! The motor is a 7.2v natively wound motor and the charger base is 9 volts. Lovely piece of work - the battery weighs about 5 ounces and has 6 1.0Ah nickel metal hydride AA cells in it. Real drills have strings of Sub-C type cells which are capable of high current discharge. This is totally the shadiest thing I have ever seen as a manufactured product. Utterly incapable of functioning as a drill or even screwdriver as the battery can only output about 4 amps maximum. Also, one came broken with the trigger knocked out.
However, cordless drill gearboxes in these types of generic "cheap" sub-$30 drills have been used for years to great success in robot drivetrains. They combine a 150-300 watt DC motor and a gearbox with a robust output shaft all in one package. The standard gear ratio is 36:1 - this one is no different, and the first stage is nylon with a wider, steel second stage.
